About Teak Wood

Teak is especially noted for its capacity to withstand changes in weather and season — the reason it's been prized for furniture for centuries.

The teak tree, or Tectona, is a tropical hardwood in the family Verbenaceae, native to the plantations of South East Asia and capable of growing 30–40 meters tall. It's a long-lived tree, often reaching 100 years of age.

Teak's resin contains a natural oil in its heartwood that's highly water resistant, protecting the wood from decay, insects and bacteria — while its thick fibers make it easier to cut and sculpt into fine detail.

Of the main teak-producing regions — Indonesia, India, Myanmar, the Philippines and Malaysia — Indonesian teak is considered the highest quality in the world, which is why it's the only material we use.
